Sound Night at the Porsche Museum

How a car sounds is just as important to many as how it looks, handles, or accelerates. Porsche has recognized this, and decided to celebrate the sounds of their engines with “Sound Night” at the Porsche Museum. It’s exactly what I’m sure most of you are thinking; They roll in ten of their most influential production and race cars in the automotive industry and rev the engine for a live audience to hear. Sound Night at the Porsche Museum looks sounds like an amazing evening audio journey through the history of Porsche.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 First Video

(Source: Autoblog)

The pictures were leaked of the newest Porsche 911 GT3 RS last week, and now a video has been posted by Porsche which shows off all of the 4.0′s amazing features. A top track day car that can be driven on the street, this new GT3 has a 4.0-liter flat-six boasting 500 horsepower. That combined with even more weight reduction compared to the previous GT3 RS means it weighs only 2,998 pounds and can race around the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 27 seconds. If you want this type of track day bliss you will have to pay quite a price; $185,000 to be exact, but that will put you in an exclusive club of only 600. On a slighly sad note, this 4.0 version will be the last 911 GT3 RS before Porsche moves on to a new GT project, but hey you can’t complain about a new Porsche.

Le Mans Pace Car Makes Mistake

This past weekend during the first race of the 2011 Le Mans Series at Le Castellet in France, the pace car made a huge mistake. The driver of the Audi S5 pace car never pulled into the pit. The result when the light hit green was the front group accelerated then hit the breaks causing a ripple effect that created a pileup of GT2 Porsches. An event, that I’m sure was embarrassing to the safety car driver, caused many teams to be effectively out of the race before it even really started including a few top contenders.

Porsche Design Sled

Porsche’s dedication to speed has taken them to an unusual place this winter with their new design downhill sled. Generally, when talking about a Porsche, we’re interested in cylinders, horsepower and torque. This time not so much. After the success of their aluminum sled a few years ago they have come out with version two. This new design is made out of composite materials which make it weigh just 8.8 lbs. It’s all black and just as any Porsche Design product is dead sexy. Although engine terms are not used, the press release talks about another realm Porsche is experienced in; handling. The camber angle of the skis gives the sled better stability and a lower center of gravity for better grip and maneuverability, along with less friction resulting in higher speeds. To steer, you simply hold on to the grips and shift your weight.  All this tech put into a sled does come at a price a bit higher than the plastic sled at Wal-Mart. The sled will be sold at Porsche Design Stores for $225

Automotive Posters

I thought I would share with you guys a few posters that I had hanging on my walls growing up. Automotive posters are where many car nuts get their start. It’s rare to actually have a Lambo in your garage, so the wall-poster was the most us kids got to see of these euro-autos. Laying up late at night staring at posters like this is what ignited the fire within.

I’m sure many of you guys can relate to this kind of stuff. Tons of Lambo and Porsche posters were floating around showing various views of the Countach and 911 icons. I even had a posted that showed Steve McQueen driving a red Porsche. It seems like the poster has fallen by the wayside with the invention of the internet. Desktop wallpapers have taken over the traditional poster. In some ways, I feel like the automotive poster was an art form. Something worthy of framing and putting up on the wall. Now we just download images and rotate them through our screensavers and desktops. In some ways, this seems like a step back to me.

The Most Powerful Porsche Ever – GT2 RS

For a road car, that is. Admiration from us for Porsche’s GT2 RS is definitely NOT in any short supply around here. This sports car is a true monster, and these guys got a chance to tear it up on a closed track. Wouldn’t it be nice to do this with your 2011 GT2? Yeah right. But it would be fun to do it in your GT2!
