Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance Video

As the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance comes to a close today, BMW has posted two videos that give us a small glimpse of what the show had to offer. As I was not able to attend this one, seeing the cars in 720p is better than nothing. Sure these videos are a bit of advertisement for BMW but who cares, they still show off some amazing rides. This was the last Concours in Florida for a while. The next one will be in Winter Park, Florida on the 5th and 6th of November this year. If you didn’t get a chance to attend the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, mark your calender for Winter Park, and enjoy the video.

Rally America Season Starts With Sno*Drift

(Source: T. Hanson Motorsports)

This past weekend started the Rally America season with Sno*Drift. I have always loved rally racing; the sudden change in driving conditions, getting sideways, and racing against the clock is all fun to watch. This year’s Sno*Drift did not disappoint. History was made with the father and son team of Travis and Terry Hanson who won overall with a super production class 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Generally the Open class cars are the ones who take the podium as they are much less restricted and have much larger budgets backed by Subaru and Ford. Super production class cars have many more restrictions on what can be modified to the car. Teams also have a much smaller budget and less sponsors making it hard to compete with the open class. With all the odds stacked against them driver skill is what led Travis and Terry to first place this past weekend, congratulations guys.

The 2010 LA Autoshow

Being my first LA AutoShow, I had no idea what to expect, so I was quite surprised, in lieu of our current economic situation, at the caliber and intelligence of new releases the manufacturers brought out.

By far Porsche killed it with their own little mini hall highlighting their past, present and future. As soon as you walked in, you were greeted by this little humble brilliant blue 356 speedster framed in its own little display, dramatic lighting cluing you into what you were about to experience.

SEMA 2010 – FTW

This years Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show was the show of all shows. Just when you think you have been to a mega-show, think again. We estimate we walked about 100 miles of show grounds during our 5 day Vegas trip. Lets just say that we car guys would much rather have driven that distance than walked it, but the rental-cart booth was sold-out each day we checked. Anyone who has anything to do with the automotive market attends this show, from buyers to

wholesalers to distributors to retailers to media. We being the latter, we were among the smaller groups in attendance. Thousands of buyers from all around the world flew into Vegas for SEMA, which was evident from the multitude of languages we overheard as we traipsed the Las Vegas Convention Center. With press conferences, seminars, celebrity appearances, unveilings, and autograph sessions happening all over the place, it was hard to stay on track and make sure we hit the whole show. Rest-assured, my throbbing feet will verify we did our best to hit every aisle and hall. From the New Product Showcase to Mobile Electronics, we saw it all.

If not for a blown coil-pack on day 4, the trip would have been perfect. Big thanks to Audi of Henderson, NV for bailing us out big-time. Maybe next year we will rent a car. Nah… Not with the winding roads of the Vegas desert.
