Pikes Peak Porsche 911 GT3

The second oldest motor sports race in history is held in Colorado Spring; It’s called the “Race to the Clouds“. This year marks the 88th running of the race, a winding 12.42 mile course with 156 turns, asphalt, gravel and dirt with an elevation change of just over 5000 feet.  30% of your race car’s power is lost by the time you reach the top. Needless to say, it’s not an easy race, but Jeff Zwart took a specially prepared Luminox Watch Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car to Pikes Peak and showed the competition a few things.  Beating the previous record holder for his Time Attack 2wd Class by 18seconds, you would think he would be content; But nope, he ended up going faster than some of the pole sitters in higher classes!

“This 911 GT3 Cup car seems to perform seamlessly from the bottom to the top of the Hill. I’ve have never been so comfortable driving Pikes Peak, and the speed I can carry into the turns – more than 115 miles-per-hour – is faster than I have ever gone here, and yet I can set up well for the dozens of hairpins which populate the course,” said Zwart.

Simply Clean, Super Cold

SimplyClean_001

Simply Clean was Simply Cold. The Rezmoto crew strapped on every last sweatshirt and jacket we owned to attend this event in early January, 2010. What better than a grouping of some clean euro-auto’s to kick off the New Year? Plus, who can turn down an invitation that declares, ‘No Fast & Furious style vehicles’.   Everything from a few Fast & Furious whips to some old school euro-autos were in attendance. In conjunction with DeepVision.net, the event was meant to describe a new movement in the Florida euro-auto scene. ‘Quality cars with enthusiats that appreciate the clean execution of Simply Clean cars.’ Cold as it was we still managed to tough it out for a few hours. Some great examples of what Orlando, FL and what the surrounding area has to offer.

EuroSunday Miami August 2009

ES000

Well, I’m certainly not going to say it was not hot out there; However, I will say that every month I yearn for that 4th Sunday of the month when a group of Euro enthusiasts come out to enjoy the camaraderie EuroSunday Miami brings. This month was no exception. Vintage is how I would categorize this outing. Not exactly the Bordeaux 1787 Chateau Lafite caliber, however, there were some exceptionally clean variants of  ’70s and ’80s Euros showing off their lines. From a 1973 Porsche 911t (t for Targa) to the brand new VW R32 MkV, every decade was represented.

Yes, the summer heat, the summer doldrums, or the back to school hoopla may have kept many of you Euro guys/gals at home, but the few die hard loyalist who show up time and time again are what keeps my admiration of the Euro community so high. Where else do you have the pleasure of getting up close and personal with these mechanical beauties of the past, present, and future and to converse with the owners who meticulously care for these engineering masterpieces?

Just a quick note, next EuroSunday will be moving to a new location. Be sure to sign-up to receive your invite and get the details for September at Eurosunday.net.

EuroSunday Miami July 2009

EuroSundayMiami_07.26.2009_002

If last July 2008 was any indication of how today was to turn-out, I would have slept-in. As 9:45AM rolled around without another Euro in sight, I figured the Summer doldrums had taken its toll on Euro-Enthusiasts’ this morning. Just as I was going to call it a day, having finished my Starbucks “doppio macchiato”, a few EuroSunday regulars showed up. I knew you guys wouldn’t let me down.

From the bright red E30 original M3 to a super mint vintage 1974(?) Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7, I was so glad I schlepped my arse out of bed that morning. Not to leave out our modern brethren, a very clean VW R32 was all spiffy and shined up. Love the powder-coated black wheels; It should have been an OEM option… Definitely another great turn-out of some very nice Euros: Porsche Cayman on boost!, Murdered out VW GTI, Mercedes W203 C32 AMG, Mercedes W210 E55 AMG, BMW E46 M3 Convertible…

Thanks to all of you that showed up; It made my weekend! Enjoy the pics…
